LOOKING FOR OXNARD
OPAC pilots its first residency in 2020 with local filmmaker/writer, Luis Güereca, who is producing an audio podcast entitled, Looking For Oxnard. The podcast is described as a deeper look at the people, places, and politics of Ventura County’s biggest little city, as told through the stories from the people that know it best. The podcast is made public online for downloading wherever podcasts are available, as well as on social media.

About the Artist.Luis Güereca lives and works in Oxnard, California. He received a B.A. in Communications and Radio/Television/Film from California State University at Northridge. Luis was also a journalism/mass media major and practiced his reporting skills as a stringer for local news publications. As a team-member for the Oxnard Housing Authority’s Resident Initiatives Program in La Colonia neighborhood, he helped to create and manage Barrio Productions, the city’s first media based program for youth, and was the lead coordinator of the Junior Youth Council, an after-school program with a focus on community involvement and cultural arts.
Luis is also one of the founder’s of Ventura County’s first film festival, which later became the Oxnard Indie Film Festival. As an employee for the City of Oxnard’s Public Information Office under the City Manager’s Office, he managed the city’s multimedia production/outreach team and established an internship program. Video projects included a bilingual live call-in talk show with the Oxnard Police Department; annual coverage of the downtown Christmas parade; director of a video project funded by the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program for a documentary series about Japanese residents from Oxnard who were detained in internment camps during World War II; writer/director/editor for two short-story programs, Spotlight on Oxnard, and, This Is Happening; lead preservationist in digitizing the 16mm documentary film, Oxnard 1961; and lead videographer for various other community events.
