THE ESPERANZA PROJECT
SALONS
Over the next year, OPAC and our Artist-in-Residence, Arcelia Martinez, will be addressing mental health topics through (4) different Salons. These virtual events are a mix of panel discussions, film, conversation/storytelling, art exhibitions, and performances. They're a virtual platform for the community to learn, ask and be engaged in this important issue. All events will be available with Spanish translation services.
Durante el próximo año, OPAC y nuestra Artista en Residencia, Arcelia Martínez, abordará temas de salud mental a través de (4) diferentes Salones. Estos eventos virtuales son una mezcla de paneles de discusión, películas, conversaciónes, exposiciones de arte y actuaciones. Son una plataforma virtual para que la comunidad para aprender mas sobre el tema. Todos los eventos estarán disponibles con servicios de traducción en español.

Dr. Richard Deamer
Dr. Richard Deamer, MD is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist in Ventura, CA and has over 54 years of experience in the medical field. Dr. Deamer completed a residency at UCLA-Npi and was the former Medical Director at Vista Del Mar Hospital. Dr. Deamer is board certified in Child Psychiatry. He graduated from Ohio State U, College of Medicine medical school in 1967. |
Dr. Margarita Mosqueda
Assistant Principal, Rio del Sol Dr. Mosqueda’s educational journey as an immigrant student was challenging yet inspiring. She completed her undergraduate degree, master’s degree, and teaching education at the University of Santa Barbara, California. She earned a second master’s in marriage and family therapy, as well as a doctorate with an emphasis on trauma-informed and social-emotional learning, from California Lutheran University. |
Dr. Claudia Laufer
Dr. Laufer is a doctor of eastern medicine and acupuncture, specializing in the treatment of mental-emotional issues and trauma release. She is faculty and Chair of the Acupuncture department at Yo San University, where she teaches classes on acupuncture as well as holistic treatment approaches to addiction recovery. She immigrated from Germany in 1992, and found her love for Traditional Eastern Medicine while studying psychology at Antioch University. |
Mónica Robles
Student Intervention Specialist Mónica Robles was born and raised in Oxnard, CA. She is the proud daughter of two hard working Mexican immigrants. She earned her A.A from Oxnard College then transferred to CSU Channel Islands where she earned her B.A in Sociology. She has a M.S in K-12 Counseling and a specialization in Child Welfare and Attendance. Mónica is currently enrolled in California Lutheran University’s K-12 Educational Leadership doctoral program. Her research areas of interest include discipline practices in schools, at-promise youth and the school-to-prison pipeline. As the Student Intervention Specialist at Frontier High School, she has the privilege of supporting students’ mental health and overall wellness everyday. |

We'll screen the long-awaited Esperanza Project documentary! The screening will be followed by a discussion with the guest artists from the year's programming and in the documentary. We’ll hear from the affected demographic and listen to what they need from the community to move forward together and heal. How can our community support teen Latinas?
